The Prompter is a plaster sculpture that appropriates Auguste Rodin’s The Thinker, and transforms it into a corrupted form of duplicated limbs. This distortion critiques AI-generated art for its duplication of limbs in error when prompted to generate a photo, its failure to generate a meaningful and thoughtful product, and for devaluing the artistry of the creative process that can only be achieved through personal, intentional dialogue between the maker and the artwork. The Prompter reflects how generative AI devalues humanity and the arts in favor of superficial mimicry.

Aleanna Mau is a queer Filipina-Chinese visual artist majoring in Visual Studies in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at the University of Calgary. Growing up immersed in gaming, technology, early 2000s aesthetics, and pop culture, she draws from these topics to inform her creative practice. Her practice currently explores how digital spaces and pop culture shape our identity, collective experience, and memories, and the blurring of boundaries between online and physical worlds, and digital and traditional media. Primarily inspired by video games and early 2000s aesthetics, she aims to give physical form to the experiences of a digital generation.
