Alexandra Petriman

Galaxy Bubble

Galaxy is among my earliest pieces done within my first year at UofC and it was not an easy task. This is an abstract sculpture I’ve worked on with the guidance of my course mentor, Terry Reynoldson. The sculpture was made entirely out of plaster with a wooden base, and was coated with acrylic paint, glitter, and a clear finish. The title was conceived upon completing the painting process. It almost bore resemblance to the night sky and being that the object itself had a non-conventional, non-conforming shape, I felt it perfectly captured the mysteries of the space beyond our world. Despite the entire art-making process being entirely improvised, Galaxy Bubble spoke to me in a way that was personal level as an assignment I made from pure instinct.

inspiration

Ever since she was a little girl, she was always inspired by many talented artists, specifically through the field of literature and animation. Alexandra often tells a variety of stories through her art. They often go in-depth about the complexities of existentialism, isolation, positive & negative relationships, fantasy, paranormal, & enduring obstacles. Sculpture, illustration, and animation in particular drove her passion to pursue an art career, resorting to creating stylized, bright, & colorful figures.
