Boundary region 02 (seebe)

Boundary region 02 (Seebe) explores land collaboration and art nature dialogue through the use of foraged and studio based materials. Starting with a large scale land collaborative drawing made and displayed en plein air, I later brought the foraged charcoal drawing into the studio with me to continue being worked on. Boundary region 02 (Seebe) develops Robert Smithson's concepts of site vs non site into a contemporary lens. The primary site of the work being both the original in situ drawing and the studio/gallery based shaped canvas.

Artist’s Statement

Through an innate connection to the land built on a lifetime of living with and within the bush, April Neuhaus’s work posits an evolution of the land art movement into a contemporary land collaborative practice. Having grown up within rural Ngarigo Country in so-called Australia, their practice explores land categories such as wilderness through a ruralized lens; wilderness as space beyond the farm fence. A faux wild place tamed to justify the exploitation of other lands.
