A "peliturcotula" is a name I conjured upon combining a pelican, turtle, cow, and tarantula, which the animal in the drawing is a hybrid of.
Artist statement
Most of the artwork I do is in the medium of pen, graphite, charcoal, and other forms of dry media. I like having a sense of control and predictability whenever I create art, which reflects why I work in the mediums mentioned. As a result, most of my peers have described my way of working as very clean, precise, and structured. That is why I abstain from doing any form of abstract work. However, I get inspired by the emotions I feel when looking at abstract work from other artists, and I illustrate them into art that suits more of my style.
artist biography
My name is Djehann B Reyes, I am a 20-year-old University of Calgary student, and I came to Calgary 7 and a half years ago from the Philippines. In terms of the artistic aspect of my life, I have been interested in art and doing art since I was 3 years old, and I began taking art classes when I was 6. Therefore, I can definitely say that art has become one of my biggest influences and passions growing up, and I hope that this creative side of mine remains until I grow old and die.
