The Vulnerable

One of the most vulnerable groups in our society are the homeless. In most cases, these people are often judged and misunderstood for their state. Many of these people struggle with broken families, mental illness, as well as drug and alcohol addiction. However, society constantly forgets that these are human beings who have been given a lack of help and support. Their basic needs are not being met, and they are rarely given the opportunities to better themselves. In this piece, I wanted to highlight the physical and emotional challenges of homelessness, which are often ignored and disregarded.

Artist Statement

Human experience and social change - these are aspects of life that greatly influences my work. There is value in looking around, taking the time to reflect on society, and paying attention to the good and the bad. I find that there are so many simple things and moments to be grateful for. Meanwhile, there are also those who are not as fortunate, those who are held back as a result of issues like war, racism, homophobia, and poverty. Life is a one time offer, we need to use it well by doing good, and acknowledging the beauty and ugliness of life.

How did you start your art practice?

Ever since I was a child, art has always been an escape and a form of expression. Growing up shy, I was never quite sure of how to communicate my own thoughts and experiences with others. A simple pencil and a paper was what got me through all those childhood years. Overtime, I continued to embrace it and use it as a tool to not only express myself, but to also create an impact in others.
