Urban Canvas is one of Hillary's first attempts at combining her photography with her painting. This painting attempts to explore the theme of how our urban spaces can be creatively reimagined.
Artist Statement
I mainly gain inspiration from the urban and natural landscape, and how they may interact with each other. Experimentation with light and colour continues to inspire my artistic practice. Most recently, I have been drawn to incorporating mixed media elements into my paintings, such as photography.
Hillary Rubel
Hillary is an emerging artist from Calgary. She has recently graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies and a minor in Visual Media Studies & Art History. Her goal is to pursue a career in urban design to help create sustainable cities. She mainly paints in oils and acrylics and finds joy in using painting as a creative outlet to explore the world around her.
