BFA Visual Studies, 4th year
My name is Joshua Seguin and I am a senior undergraduate student pursuing a BFA in Visual Studies at the University of Calgary. Responding to the internet poisoned environment, I create Illustration-based work that is informed by cartoons and comics. This visual approach allows me to work intuitively; responding introspectively to personal experiences and social issues quickly. Printmaking creates a distance between initial image generation and its final production. Where drawing is immediate, printmaking and its many steps allow me to reflect on the images while in progress and physically experiment with colour and composition throughout the process. In future work, I plan to develop prints that explore the contradiction of addressing serious topics in an “unserious” manner.
