Artist Info
Lumawig is a queer Filipina artist living in diaspora whose practice serves as an ongoing journey of self-discovery. What began as an expression of her inner mental landscape has evolved into a deeper exploration of her lost heritage and spiritual identity. Through her work, she seeks to exist honestly as a Filipina, uncovering hidden stories, reconnecting with ancestral wisdom, and redefining what it means to belong. Her art explores concepts of the Babaylan, kapwa (connectedness), and silenced stories, weaving together fragments of memory, spirit, and culture into a living act of reclamation.

This pot’s form is inspired by Palayok, a traditional clay pot from the Kalinga region in the Philippines. It is a tradition passed down through generations of women. While usually for cooking and daily life, I use it as a vessel for remembrance, honour and commemoration. Through this transformation, I bridge the gap between Filipino pre-colonial History and the colonially revised art history. This pot becomes a witness of the lost souls, seeing what had been silenced and bringing silenced Truth to the forefront.
