Reaching out

Reaching Out is an acrylic painting that I created to capture a special nature-based moment in time. Through this piece I wanted to depict that as the butterfly lands on the tips of one's fingers, the rest of the world feels as if it is at a standstill admiring this unexpected encounter. Thus, we can connect with nature through this personal moment, feeling free from the restrictions we hold against ourselves.

With many of my works, I am inspired by what I see infront of me, and encounter in my life. Focusing on an almost hyperrealistic approach, I enjoy observing different elements very closely, noticing very fine details, and doing so in a variety of mediums. From my understandings, art is everywhere around us. It is made up of whatever we choose it to be, and in that I find inspiration in encouraging all forms of art.

artist biography

Stamatoula Parthenis is a first year student at the University of Calgary pursuing a concurrent BEd and BFA. Parthenis has felt connected to art through many different forms, but has since deepened her love for painting. Through her practice, and in pursuing Visual Studies, she has come to understand the beauty in our daily lives that is created through art. This has motivated her as an artist to explore the ways in which she can inspire and connect with others, along with what our world has to offer.
