Yearning

This work was inspired by the human propensity to throw things away once we perceive them as useless. The pigeon is the perfect example of something that was once loved and is now abandoned because it is no longer helpful. For centuries, the pigeon lived in close quarters with humans as pets and livestock, even becoming an essential messenger during war times. However, now, most people perceive them to be a nuisance or as pests. Yearning shows a mother pigeon looking fondly at her eggs sitting in a nest made from city garbage. The eggs each have a human-looking mask in the hope that they will be accepted into humanity as they once were. The nest made from waste is an essential aspect of this work, as the domestication of pigeons has made them forget how to properly build a nest, with most city nests comprising litter and a few sticks.

Atrtist’s statement

I am mainly a printmaker and painter (oils). My practice is inspired by my own experiences in life and my desire to share and connect with others who have gone through similar experiences.
