Victoria Zaba

Failure of Fashion

The nature of the Victoria's Secret brand and the individuals that run it does not do any good for the women in our society, no matter how much they swear they do. In my first panel of this piece, Nike of Samothrace takes up the whole page, setting up the meaning to the fallen wing in the second panel. The Nike of Samothrace is also known as "The Winged Victory" since Nike is the Greek goddess of victory, and so having her wing sliced off her body and fall to the ground signifies the opposite: failure, thus hinting at the failure of Victoria's Secret due to their involvement with discrimination, sexual assault, and Epstein Island.

biography

My name is Victoria Maria Zaba, and I am a Polish Canadian second-year university student who has a deep fascination with realism and classical art, and architecture. My passion for art was heavily influenced by my mother, who painted with oils herself and brought me to many museums regularly, both in Canada and Poland as a child. Having grown up in a Catholic household, religion has always been in my life. Though I may not strongly connect with religion itself, I have developed a fascination for the storytelling and characters of both Catholicism and Ancient Myths.

inspiration

My work focuses on imagery from myths and religious stories typically in the form of oil painting, digital, charcoal, and graphite drawing. Sometimes I will create just for the sake of fulfilling my constant desire to bring fantastical imagination to life and other times I will create mythological realism works with deeper undertones that comment on modern issues I am passionate about.
