Letters to the Past Self

The piece is about the desperation to be a child again because it brings the nostalgic memories with old friends and families. The background is a handwritten letter to my young self, layered with red tissue papers to symbolize love and a bold attachment to the past.

Artist’s Statement

Hello, my name is Wynona Wallace and I am currently a first year student majoring in Visual Studies. As a young and striving artist, I find passion on composing unique visuals to portray impactful and emotional messages to the people. With the use of expanding my creativity, knowledge, and skills, it serves as a guide through the path of being a successful role model to others. Ever since I was a child, I fell in love with the idea of showcasing an art piece that influences people to look forward to and feel a strong connection with it. It is a way to fulfill a childhood dream of mine, by being someone that can inspire and motivate people with the same interests, and to let them follow their own goals in life. By doing that, I like to experiment and explore different mediums and techniques, that can help me grow and traverse my passion in making enlivening pieces.

Unknown Face

The piece is about giving up one's identity that helps forget the past and make adjusting to new circumstances simpler in a new environment as an immigrant. Teared face to hide identity and sewed hole to show inner pain.
