The combination of the two worlds, Acrylic painting, 24”X96”, 2022

The Combination of the two worlds

Acrylic painting with a light blue Chinese dragon with a gentle expression soaring over the sea of clouds and the mountains. The painting takes the center as the axis, and there are two worlds with the same pattern but different colors on the left and right. The dragon's head is placed flat on the lake on the left side, and the greenery in the breath soaks the canvas on the right, presenting a spring scene of melting ice and snow.

Artist statement

I am an artist who focuses on humanities and culture. Through Acrylic painting, sculpture, digital art and architectural design, I study the inheritance and innovation of culture, and the ideology formed by people in today's society. The experience of studying abroad from China to Canada made me think about the importance of cultural inheritance.

How did you start your art practice?

Most of the time I start with a piece of myth, legend or fable. Then I go deep into the story, trying to find a connection between me and any of the characters in the story. What should I do if I encounter that situation? What's different, does historical context influence our decisions? Or does social identity change my perception of the story? I like to put myself in different situations to gain different experiences, and then record them through painting.
