LONELINESS Printmaking intaglio 10 in. x 17 in.

LONELINESS primarily explores the feelings of solitude and introspection within the context of personal growth. I employ minimalist backgrounds to highlight architecture, emphasizing my pursuit of independence and self-reliance. I aim to convey that growth is an individual's life journey, achieved through independent thinking and self-learning. Through details such as reflections in windows and drifting leaves in the background, I suggest that despite growth being a personal journey, it does not mean solitude; there will always be external forces to support and assist us to some extent. The overall tone of the work is solitary growth, yet companionship can be found in the details. I hope this piece uplifts those experiencing hardship and loneliness, conveying that even in the darkest times, they are loved and hoped for, wishing for them to have a beautiful life.

 Artist Statement

My artistic practice primarily focuses on the emotional experiences of immigrant communities. As an international student who came to Canada, I am particularly interested in the personal experiences of those who have left their homeland and the process of seeking roots in a new environment. This situation is not limited to immigrants but also includes individuals who have left their hometowns for work opportunities.
